The Jewel Cake: when the wedding cake becomes a piece of jewellery
Let’s start at the end with the wedding cake. Embossed designs, three-dimensional embellishments, metallic elements, oversized flowers, drapery, textures and decorations that seem to belong more to the world of jewellery or haute couture than to that of traditional confectionery. Among the most spectacular designs are gems, crystals and jewel-like embellishments, used to scatter the cake’s surface with points of light and give it that precious, almost objet d’art appearance. It is no longer merely a matter of decoration: the cake’s surface becomes a medium to be shaped, whilst the boundary between pastry-making, sculpture and fine jewellery grows ever more blurred. The result is a wedding cake that no longer simply asks to be cut and tasted, but to be admired, photographed and remembered. A sort of grand edible jewel, in which the preciousness does not necessarily lie in the quantity of embellishments, but rather in their ability to transform the cake into a standalone visual spectacle.
Wedding shoe trends for 2027
This preference for comfort reflects brides’ increasingly strong desire not to sacrifice ease and natural movement on the altar of a pair of shoes that may look impeccable in the first photographs, but which, once the first hour has passed, are bound to become an uncomfortable burden for the rest of the ceremony.
This trend is particularly evident at outdoor ceremonies, especially when the reception takes place on the beach or in a garden – settings in which lighter, more supple and airier footwear is not only a tasteful choice but also meets a specific practical need, allowing the bride to move with ease and grace without compromising the sophistication of her overall look.
This establishes a concept of bridal footwear in which elegance and comfort are no longer seen as mutually exclusive, demonstrating how a bridal shoe can retain a sophisticated and vaguely regal allure, whilst gracefully and effortlessly accompanying every moment of the day, from the initial photographs right through to the liveliest celebrations.

The bridal shoe as a wearable work of art
Whilst in recent years bridal footwear seemed destined to remain a secondary element – refined, yet subordinate to the dress – the latest collections from the major brands appear to mark a paradigm shift: the shoe has finally gained its own aesthetic autonomy and has become a true work of art to be worn. No longer, then, a mere accessory to the outfit, but an almost sculptural feature, capable of catching the eye and lending personality to the entire bridal look.

The shapes take on a sculptural, three-dimensional quality, and are at times even architectural; volumes, reliefs, overlays and embellishments seem to shape the footwear as if it were a small sculpture, whilst even the most seemingly understated designs are conceived through clean lines and refined proportions, in which the form itself becomes the ornament. It is no surprise, then, that among the most interesting designs are three-dimensional flowers, appliqué roses, feathers, crystals, pearls and embossed detailing, combined with a wide variety of materials, from satin to leather, right through to more precious and textured surfaces, in a range of interpretations that seem intent on restoring to the shoe that almost jeweller-like quality which for a long time had been the exclusive preserve of accessories.

Particularly interesting, too, is the return of the pointed toe – a silhouette that inevitably evokes the aesthetic of the early 2000s, but which, in contemporary collections, is reinterpreted with a more austere, graphic and sophisticated style. The toe no longer merely defines the shape of the shoe, but becomes a truly expressive element: slender, elongated, sometimes exaggerated, capable of lending the shoe an almost sculptural presence and transforming it into the visual focal point of the ensemble.

It is as though the archetype has finally changed: it is no longer the shoe that must quietly complement the dress, but the dress itself that can be designed around the shoe. This is a particularly interesting choice for the contemporary bride, who can thus treat herself to the luxury of wearing a little masterpiece even when the dress is deliberately understated, transforming what would once have been considered a mere detail into a genuine focal point of the entire look.
Invitations, Menus and Place Cards: wedding stationery
By 2027, wedding stationery will move beyond the concept of a simple paper medium to become a sensory experience and an extension of the wedding’s identity: more tactile, three-dimensional, illustrated, personal and daring. Typography breaks free from two-dimensionality and takes on an almost sculptural quality, through overlapping elements, layering and reliefs that lend the compositions a textural quality and a marked sense of depth. The letters are no longer simply imprinted on the surface, but seem to emerge from it, overlapping and intertwining, transforming the typography itself into an ornamental and almost architectural element.

- Three-dimensional, handcrafted typography: words take on a tangible quality through embroidery, threads, perforations and handcrafted techniques, transforming the writing itself into a decorative element.
- Unexpected shapes: the traditional invitation gives way to shapes such as birds, flowers, playing cards and other cut-out designs, transforming the invitation into something more akin to a small keepsake.
- Maximalism: patterns, illustrations, bright colours and rich compositions take the place of the strictest minimalism. Stationery becomes almost a small work of art, capable of visually setting the tone for the wedding.
- Personalised illustration: the hand-drawn style, deliberately imperfect, becomes a true defining feature, carried through from the invitation to the website and the signage on the wedding day.
- Stationery becomes an experience: even the menu is reimagined as a small interactive object, for example in an envelope format that guests must open to discover the contents.
New trends in wedding rings
Wedding bands for 2027 are officially bidding farewell to boredom and flashy, showy designs, embracing a brand-new kind of luxury: one that speaks of history, character, and a touch of personal eccentricity. Forget those run-of-the-mill, barely-there white gold bands! If you’re planning to tie the knot, get ready to explore a world of bold shapes, ethical materials, and heaps of personality. Here are five bridal trends to watch for in 2027 (in strictly random—and unconventional—order!):
- The everyday ring you can wear without a fuss (Comfort Fit)
Let’s start with the most important thing: you’ll be wearing it on your finger forever, so it had better be comfortable! The real revolution isn’t visible from the outside, it’s felt on the inside. There is huge demand for the rounded inner profile designed to let the ring slide on as smoothly as butter, preventing it from pinching your finger when the summer heat kicks in or after a hearty meal.
- Collectible interlocking games (Stacking Bands)
Why settle for just one ring when you can create a sparkling puzzle? The wedding band of 2027 loves teaming up with the engagement ring already on your finger. Feel free to choose contoured, curved, or chevron styles designed to “hug” the solitaire stone and create the perfect match.
- Color, ethics, and unconventional cuts
Traditional diamonds have to share the spotlight with new stars! Make way for lab-grown diamonds (stunning and ethically impeccable) and stones in spicy or oceanic hues, such as teal sapphires and champagne diamonds. The real highlight? Stones set horizontally (East-West style) or featuring elongated cuts like oval and marquise.
- Imperfection that defines style: texture and “Circular Gold”
No more soulless, mirror-like surfaces! Visibly handcrafted details are in vogue, featuring hammered or raw finishes, or delicate, nature-inspired engravings. And for the romantics, there is “Circular Gold”: taking a vintage family heirloom and melting it down to craft new rings. It is the perfect blend of sustainability and cherished memories.
- “Bold” Yellow Gold: thicknesses that stand out
Low-key minimalism has officially retired. Yellow gold is making a major comeback, but in a bold, sculptural form. We are talking about wide, substantial bands with warm finishes, whether polished or satin, that transform the wedding ring into a true high-fashion accessory with a powerful personality.
Unplugged Wedding
In recent years, more and more couples – from the big names of the jet set to everyday weddings – have been opting for an ‘unplugged’ ceremony. No phones held aloft as the bride makes her entrance. No live Instagram stories. No selfies taking the place of hugs. It’s not a question of rigidity but a choice of experience. Whilst this trend initially arose mainly to protect the privacy of weddings such as those of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in Venice, Venus Williams in Ischia, or Brooklyn Beckham and Nicola Peltz, the reason has now changed. Couples want one very simple thing: people who are actually there.
What does an ‘unplugged’ wedding really mean?
It means letting the photographers and videographers tell the story of the day, while the guests enjoy the luxury of experiencing the moment with their own eyes. It is not simply an aesthetic trend, but rather… reflects a change in the way we view the very experience of marriage. As a wedding planner, I can tell you one thing: when nobody has their phone in front of their face during the ceremony, it completely changes the atmosphere. Eyes meet, emotions are visible, and the photographs turn out much better. The memory stays in your heart first, and only later in your phone’s gallery. But how do you communicate your wish for an ‘unplugged’ wedding without coming across as rude? It’s always the way you say it that makes the difference. A simple sentence on the wedding website or in the invitations might be enough, or perhaps a sign at the entrance. Some couples also opt for creative alternatives, such as a Polaroid for the guestbook or a live illustrator, so that guests take home a memento without feeling the need to photograph everything.
So why, then, are content creators in ever-increasing demand?
Because it meets a completely different need. The content creator acts as a sort ofprofessional filter between the experience and the digital world: whilst guests are encouraged to put their phones away, a designated person deliberately captures spontaneous, vertical content that can be shared immediately on social media. They might, for example, focus on backstage action, preparations, details of the table setting, bouquets, the bride’s dress, beauty looks, decorations, spontaneous moments during the reception, vertical videos and content designed to be shared quickly. We’ve discussed this in more detail here.
If you’re planning your wedding but aren’t quite sure how to bring your vision to life, do get in touch – even if it’s just for a casual chat. Who knows what other ideas might come to mind!
FAQ wedding trend 2027
What is the common thread running through the 2027 wedding trends?
Rather than a single aesthetic, 2027 seems to celebrate the desire to transform every detail of the wedding into a sensory experience and an expression of the couple’s personality. Paper, typography, illustrations, colours and formats take on greater depth and character, moving away from the idea of purely decorative details to become an integral part of the event’s narrative.
Can a wedding cake become a piece of jewellery?
Yes, gemstone cakes are a niche part of this trend for sculptural cakes, which feature metallic textures, pearlescent effects and three-dimensional decorations, including gemstones.
What are the trends for bridal shoes in 2027?
This year, the bridal shoe takes centre stage. It takes on a sculptural character, a veritable piece of jewellery around which the entire outfit can be built, starting with the shoe rather than the dress, which can remain more basic and conceptual.
Why have unplugged weddings come back into fashion?
The ‘unplugged’ wedding isn’t a reaction against social media, but a response to its ubiquity: we aren’t necessarily becoming less social; we’re simply becoming more selective about what we want to share and what we simply want to experience.
